René van Sloten, a Dutch national, joined Cefic in 1990 as sector group manager, taking up the position of Head of Trade Policy in 1995 and finally as Executive Director since 2008. His areas of responsibility include trade policy, competitiveness and economic and statistical affairs.
He started his career in 1985 as research assistant at the European Institute of Public Administration at Maastricht. In 1986 he joined the European Consulting Company (ECCO) in Brussels working with several European industry and trade associations.
René has a master’s degree in economic and social history of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, followed by post-graduate studies in international relations at the Institute for International Relations Clingendael in The Hague, and in European public administration at the College of Europe in Bruges.
